Meal prep in Ho Chi Minh City: cook yourself or order?
Compare cooking and meal delivery by schedule, usable cost, storage and taste, with a mixed approach for busy weeks in Ho Chi Minh City.

Start with the week, not five identical boxes
You may bring lunch on Monday and Tuesday, meet a client on Wednesday, train late on Thursday and eat with colleagues on Friday. Five identical packed meals may not solve that schedule. Mark the meals you actually need, then decide how to prepare or order them. Meal prep means planning ahead; it does not require cooking many days of food in one session.
When home cooking fits
Cooking can suit you if you enjoy it, have time to shop and can store the meals appropriately. You control flavour and can record ingredients. Include washing, portioning, cleaning and unused ingredients in the decision. Start with one or two repeatable meals before buying equipment or planning a complicated weekly menu.
When delivery solves a specific problem
Prepared meals may help on a packed day or when you do not want to buy several ingredients for one person. In return, you need to agree on the delivery window, address, fee and what happens if plans change. If your workplace lacks suitable storage, arrange a meal you can receive and use at an appropriate time before choosing a longer plan.
Compare cost per meal actually used
Consider a hypothetical example, not a market-price survey: VND 400,000 of ingredients planned for five meals, but only four eaten, means VND 100,000 per consumed meal before energy, containers and time. For delivery, divide food plus delivery fees by meals received. Compare the same scope instead of setting an incomplete ingredient cost against an all-inclusive service price.
Plan within storage limits
USDA advises using most properly refrigerated cooked leftovers within 3–4 days. Refrigerate promptly, within two hours or one hour above approximately 32°C. This is not a universal shelf life for every food or delivered box. Rice and individual products need their own handling guidance; longer plans require suitable cooking, delivery or freezing arrangements. [1]
Mix both approaches
Cook on quieter days and request meals for busy ones. Try a short schedule and note flavour and delivery preferences before expanding it. Eat Better currently offers 1-, 4- and 12-week requests with one or two meals on selected weekdays, alongside individual-meal requests. Read the weekly meal-plan guide and choose the dates you need. Availability and delivery fees are confirmed before payment.
