Choosing gym meals: look beyond “high protein”

Ask about portions, protein sources and meal timing when choosing a plan around training, without guessing nutrition from photographs.

Choosing gym meals: look beyond “high protein”

A name does not establish protein content

A large chicken portion in a photograph does not tell you its weight or the protein in the complete serving. When tracking intake, request information for the actual recipe and portion. A “high protein” label alone does not answer those questions.

Look at the food source and the sides

Harvard’s Nutrition Source explains that protein foods also bring other components, including fats, fibre and sodium. Read the main ingredient, vegetables, starch and dressing together rather than limiting your choice to one kind of chicken dish. [1]

Fit meals around a real training day

If you train after work, plan when you can receive and eat food. Confirm any switch between office and home addresses. Do not assume the kitchen or courier can accommodate a same-day change.

Keep the full day in view

Lunch is only part of your daily intake. If you have an individual nutrition target, compare it with confirmed recipe data. Without that data, a kitchen should not promise a particular calorie or protein outcome.

Try it and give specific feedback

Test a few meals on convenient days. Note flavour, reheating instructions and delivery timing. Specific feedback is easier to act on than a general request to make a dish healthier.

About Eat Better Active Living

Active Living is a protein-focused menu direction, not an individual nutrition programme. Recipes and nutritional figures need confirmation before you can assess them against training targets. You can request a schedule and ask about dishes before deciding.
